Eliot residents fight PSNH switching station plan
Eliot, Maine, residents Doria and John Heath, front, and neighbors are fighting to keep Public Service of New Hampshire from building a switching station on a property near their homes. About 17 acres would be clear-cut. Back row, from left, is the lawyer representing George and Ruth Larenas, J.P. Nadeau, joined by Michelle Morin, Ron Lund, Joanne Ferguson, John Manchester and Linus Manchester.ELIOT, Maine — Abutters of a proposed Public Service of New Hampshire switching station in a rural part of town are mounting an effort to stop the utility from clear-cutting the site across the road from their homes.
"Hardly anyone knows about this except for the people right around here. There was hardly anyone at the selectmen's meeting or the Planning Board meeting" when the matter was brought up, said John Heath of Worster Road.
At issue are PSNH's plans to construct a new switching station near Worster Road and Stacy Lane. Neighbors, who gathered at Heath's home this week to talk about their frustration with the project, said they have received little help from town or utility officials.
Drainage is another potential problem, they said. Each neighbor bemoaned the loss of the scenic beauty and quietness of the area with the coming of the switching station.
"We came here 14 years and ago and sat by the bridge, sat here for two hours drinking coffee, and 11 cars went by," Heath said.
"It's not just the view, but it can devastate property values on a whole section of land," said Portsmouth attorney J.P. Nadeau, who is representing neighbors George and Ruth Larenas.
Heath and his wife, Doria, attended a public hearing on the matter in January and PSNH told the audience it would clear-cut a swath of forested land much larger — about double — than the 5.3 acres needed for the switching station itself. The entire parcel, which PSNH bought, is 17 acres.
The neighbors maintain the clear-cutting is not needed and would make the switching equipment more visible, further ruining the view and lowering property values.
PSNH officials said the switching station is proposed to connect Central Maine Power's planned 345-kilovolt power line, which is part of the company's upgrade, with power lines in New Hampshire. The station would include three terminal lines, six circuit breakers, various disconnect switches and a small control building, and would be surrounded by a security fence.

Panel members approved the plans, with the only condition being that plantings along the berm be grouped and then staggered in a non-linear fashion to create a more natural look. The Plan Commission meets to discuss Franklynn's conditional use permit

Floodwater would need to rise over 7 feet to flow over the berms and enter the plant, Hanson said, adding that the supplemental dam was not in original flood prevention plans. An NRC inspection at Fort Calhoun two years ago indicated deficiencies in

Dear New House Builders,
Nothing beats getting your hands on great house floor plans, when you are starting out to build a new house, barn, cabin, cottage, shed or garage. We all know how important it is to start with the right house floor plan so everything can fall into place beautifully. Well, this is the reason I build this website, to share with you the beautiful plans I have used and implemented with success.
The building of a great home begins with a great set of House Floor Plans. Often times the question that bothers home builders is whether or not they need to invest heavily to design a custom housing plan?
To me, that’s unnecessary. The reason is, custom House Floor Plans usually are necessary only when you are constructing a luxury home ranging from 5 million dollars and above. Then of course, having a custom housing plan to detail your personal desires and prefereces is perfectly reasonable. Afterall, it is a multimillion dollar dream house! So what is another 4-10 thousand dollars of spending?
On the other hand, common housing projects, such as a 2Br Cabin, 4Br House with a garage that fits 2 cars do not need elaborate House Floor Plans. If you notice, 8 out of 10 typical residential houses around town share the same generic House Floor Plans that come with minor but noticable changes.
From this pattern, I noticed that clever developers have since built their new projects by making various modifications to their standardized House Floor Plans in order to save architectural fees and also to keep it easy and less costly for their contractors to build.
5) Barn = $1300 – $1600I sat back and thought about these expenses and came to a question. Should I spend thousands of dollars to wait for weeks or even months before an architect finishes my design, or download some ready made but very beautifully designed House Floor Plans by paying the cost of approximately a few lattes? I pondered and I went the path of the latte.
Want an example of what I am talking about? Check out the image below:
Here’s the thing. A year ago I decided to embark upon a project to construct my very own 4Br rental property. A plain, simple yet elegant design is what I had in mind. An architect quoted me $2,000 for the design. It was rather shocking to hear it even though I kind of expect the price to be in that ball park.
