Food preservation program at UMaine's Rogers Farm

University of Maine Cooperative Extension Food Preservation program aide Christopher Cosce will share advice on how to safely preserve your harvest at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, at the Master Gardener Demonstration Garden at Rogers Farm at 914 Bennoch Road in Stillwater.

Cosce will bring along examples of tools used for preserving fruits and vegetables and resources for the home preserver and will be ready for questions that you may have.

This is a free program and advance registration is not required. It is the third of this summer’s Public Nights at the Garden. The next event, an Art in the Garden celebration, is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 16.

The Demonstration Garden features plots maintained by volunteers from the Master Gardener program, a program of the University of Maine Cooperative Extension . The Garden is open every day from dawn until dusk. For more information about the Demonstration Garden, the Master Gardener program, or the Public Nights in the Garden, contact the Extension office weekdays 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at 942-7396 or 800-287-1485 or visit www.extension.umaine.edu.

The Bangor Daily News encourages comments about stories, but you must follow our terms of service .

In brief: Keep it civil and stay on topic No vulgarity, racial slurs, name-calling or personal attacks. People who harass others or joke about tragedies will be blocked.

The primary rule here is pretty simple: Treat others with the same respect you'd want for yourself. Here are some guidelines ( see more ):

Don't insult one another or the subjects of BDN stories. You may be ticked off at what someone did or said, but you can explain that without resorting to name-calling or obscenity. Remember that young people are on this site too. That nasty line that makes your buddies go "haw, haw"? You're better than that. Comments should be your own work, not copied and pasted from elsewhere, though brief quoted passages to make your point are fine. And please don't use all capital letters. There's no need to shout. Stay focused on the issue in the article, not the individuals and their various failings. This isn't a forum to chat about your personal life. However, if you'd like to start a blog about your Maine neighborhood, please stop by Maineville.com and get started. Some ideas - the fate of the earth, abortion, gun control, the nature of God - aren't going to be resolved in a reader forum, so no need to get frustrated if others don't see your point of view. State your position once and leave it at that. Next to each comment is a link marked "Report abuse." Please use it if you feel comments on the site are out of line. Quite often, we won't see a comment until it's reported. Questions about why a comment was - or wasn't - deleted? E-mail us at web@bangordailynews.com and let us know your username and where you posted or saw the comment. That's about it: Stick to writing about the stories; be civil; be kind; enlighten your neighbors. And we'll keep moderating posts to try to ensure everyone meets those standards.

The shapes, patterns, colors and form have been making their way into my artwork since I was a child. Over the years I have explored many different mediums in my artistic endeavors. Painting, Encaustic, Assemblage, Photography have emerged as my mediums of choice. Often times it is a fusing of these mediums that are incorporated into a finished piece. Walking in the garden, along the rocky coast, or exploring a bird filled island, these are the magic moments that feed my imagination and my work. Studying nature and creating a visual narrative is the magic that fills my dream world, day and night.
