St Mary's Church, Falmouth
June 19 was Trinity Sunday, celebrated traditionally for many centuries on the Sunday after Pentecost. The church was especially beautiful with floral decorations for the wedding of Daniel Reeve and Samantha Nankivell the previous Friday.
The congregation was given notes and booklets preparing for the revised translation of the Order of Mass, which will be introduced in September.
On Monday morning the funeral of Dennis Pinn was held. Parish organisations continued as usual. The Catholic Women’s League met in the presbytery after mass on Monday and the Society of St Vincent de Paul met on Tuesday morning. Parishioners were invited to the first session on Dementia Care at Dracaena Centre, which aimed to help anyone caring for or visiting persons with dementia. St Mary’s offers prayers every week for the sick, housebound or disabled.
St Mary’s School has begun to look forward to the end of summer term and the new school year in September. On Thursday the new reception class enjoyed their third induction session and the current reception class had a session in Class 1. Year 6 have been enjoying weekly sessions at Falmouth School preparing for the big move in the autumn. Year 5 have been working on the Green Goblin Car Workshop after school and enjoyed a superb day’s racing on Thursday at RAF St Mawgan with James, Lily, Caleb, Isaac, Jack, Billy, Harry and Reuben, and helpful parents and grandparents. Congratulations to Rosie Evans from Class 3 who won an invitation for her class mates for a day’s visit to Flambards.
Special congratulations also to Peter Martin, Sophie Templeton and Nathan Pinhay, who were successful at the PADL Platinum Sustainability Award Assessment and attended the PADL Award Ceremony at County Hall.
There have been regular classes after school for the candidates for their first Holy Communion. Sunday was the Feast of Corpus Christi and the ten candidates – Matthew, Connor, Mace, Olivia, Sophie, Alfie, Owen, Ralph, Fabian and Spencer came with their families for this very special occasion in a church overflowing with friends and well-wishers. In the afternoon parishioners joined members of all the parishes in Cornwall Deanery for the Corpus Christi procession on Lemon Quay, Truro.
