Keys beach resort getting $10.5 million makeover
Islamorada’s Holiday Isle Beach Resort and Marina, located at MM 84 oceanside, has begun a $10.5 million renovation to create a modern tropical resort on its oceanfront 12.5 acres. In all, 129 of the current 151 rooms will receive makeovers. Nearly half of the room upgrades are scheduled to be complete in September 2011 and the remainder in November 2011. Rooms are to feature flat-screen TVs and Wi-Fi.
The vacant Sport Fish Grill, the resort’s main restaurant facility, is to become the first Shula Burger. Named for legendary Miami Dolphins coach Don Shula, it is slated for a September 2011 opening. Representatives say new owners Starwood Capital expect to create a “beach resort chic” design, while maintaining the property’s easygoing vibe that dates back to its debut in 1951.
Holiday Isle’s famed Tiki Bar with its hand-carved wood floor is expected to remain, along with the resort’s claim to have invented the frozen rum runner cocktail. For more information visit www.holidayisle.com .

South Beach runs from 1-23rd st, and you are on 48th st which is another 25 blocks away. As I know there are no blocks in the UK, let me explain that 10 blocks is about 1 mile... so you are 2 1/2 miles from South Beach. Still, the beach where you are is gorgeous and you'll love it but it is a secluded spot with nothing around but the hotel. The Fountainbleau is on 41st if you want a bit more action, but be warned, it is expensive! One drink there will cost $25. A good way to get the non-glamorized view of where your hotel is would be to check things out in the "bird's eye" photographic view on maps.bing.com . You can zoom in right over your hotel and check out the grounds, proximity to the beach, and surrounding neighborhood. On maps.google.com , you can actually go for a virtual walk along the street in front of it. Just put the address in the map, and drag the little yellow man icon to the street in front of your hotel. Go for a walk around the block. You can't go swimming, though, unfortunately!
