Pioneer Farm Families honored
The 2011 Pioneer Farm Family Awards have been announced and will be presented at county fairs this summer.
The awards were initiated 57 years ago to recognize longtime family ownership of Nebraska land.
The Knights of Ak-Sar-Ben, the Nebraska Fair Managers Association and the Nebraska Farm Bureau are sponsors of the awards.
To qualify, members of the same family must have owned a parcel of land consecutively for at least 100 years.
Each honoree receives a plaque and gatepost marker, presented during the fair in the county where the land is situated.

Wes Brown assumed the role of interim Josephine County fair manager and director of racing this spring after Jackie McBee resigned a few months earlier. McBee held the dual position for four years. Brown had no prior experience in horse racing.
The training that day begins at 1 pm at the Del Norte County Fair grounds. “Jackson County is bringing over its mobile operations center, which is a must-see,” said McNamara. The rest of the training exercises are closed to the public.

I just thought of a couple more festivals Seafood and Wine festival in Astoria, Or at the Fairgrounds and then camp at Ft. Stevens and a shuttle will pick you up also at other various places. There is the Newport Seafood and Wine Festival. Nice campgrounds nearby as well. There is the Pirate Festival and they used to have it at St. Johns and now I think they had it in St. Helens last year.
