Man who served time for murder now held in assault on vendor, officer

A 44-year-old Seattle man, released last year after serving 20 years in prison for first-degree murder, was ordered held on $100,000 bail Tuesday on suspicion he assaulted a hot-dog vendor, trashed the man's cart and tussled with cops during a wild melee outside two Sodo nightclubs early Monday.

A second man, 35, was also arrested for the attack on the vendor but was released from the King County Jail on Tuesday pending further investigation, according to Dan Donohoe, spokesman for King County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg.

The 44-year-old, who had two large bandages on the right side of his head, requested his bail be set at $10,000 during his first appearance before King County District Court Judge Mark Chow on Tuesday.

"I do work. My daughter is here from out of town. Her mother is in Texas. She's at my house. I have no problem coming to court," the man told Chow.

But Chow, noting the man's lengthy criminal history — including his 1990 conviction for first-degree murder — and his arrest earlier this year for eluding police and reckless endangerment, denied the request. The man is being held on investigation of second-degree assault in the vendor attack; third-degree assault in the assault on a Seattle police officer whose knees were injured; and malicious mischief for allegedly wrecking the vendor's cart.

He was 24 when he was charged with fatally shooting a man in a Rainier Valley lounge, apparently after a heated argument over a $20 bill. The Seattle Times generally does not name suspects until they have been criminally charged. Prosecutors are expected to file formal charges against the man Thursday.

Around 2 a.m. Monday, hundreds of people poured out of Republiq and Habana SODO, two nightclubs in the 2900 block of First Avenue South, said police spokeswoman Renee Witt. South Precinct officers assigned to monitor the closing-time exodus quickly called for backup units as "a large-scale, mass disturbance" erupted in front of them, she said.

ATL Blog: Gucci Mane HAS NOT Been Relased From Jail, Despite False ...

While most of the hip-hop blogs are reporting that Gucci Mane celebrated his release from a three-month stint in a Fulton County jail, it appears Gucci is still behind bars.

Stories erupted earlier today that Atlanta — and much of the worlds– most notorious MC partied into the wee hours of the morning celebrating the new release of “Writing on the Walls 2″ with DJ Holiday. But it seems that its not the ease.

Per MTV:

Gucci was expected to be released yesterday, according to his lawyer Ashutosh Joshi, but it seems that “procedural holdups” prevented that from happening. MTV News also learned that there is currently a hold on Gucci’s release and a possibility that once he is freed from Fulton County Jail that he would be sent up to a state prison. The rapper’s lawyer however says that once this issue is resolved Gucc will be free man.
