With the election of Gov. Scott Walker and the subsequent actions taken by the Democratic state senators, the public employees' and teachers unions, the fundamental issue has become crystal clear.

While many may try to deny it, the Wisconsin (and national) Democratic Party's push has taken on a distinctly socialist character. The recently elected Republican majority has begun a long-overdue push to salvage a free economy and the resulting freedoms it brings, to make the difficult decisions and take courageous action on what's best, long-term, for the state and its citizens.

Walker and the Republican senators are already achieving significant progress in making Wisconsin attractive to business. Frankly, this stimulates our state's economy and results in more jobs for Wisconsin residents.

Ironically, and tragically, many left-leaning protestors and demonstrators are accusing our governor of favoring corporations and what they call "the wealthy" (however you would define it). A very logical question that begs an answer is: "Why are they demonizing the businesses and corporations that provide the jobs that provide the income that allows Wisconsin residents to provide for their families — and that provide the tax income to support public employees and public school teachers?"

We would suggest that it comes from a lack of understanding of our free enterprise system and a naivete about how a truly free economy works. Unfortunately, this same ailment plagues our current President Barack Obama and the Democrats in power, including Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. They would rather increase and maintain the unwise and extravagant political course previously established and for which there is no funding, and keep borrowing and increasing taxes, especially on business and on those who create success.

Folks, this is stifling to an economy and job-killing at its best. This is not good for Wisconsin families. It is very self-centered, short-term, and counterproductive. With this approach comes the fundamental question: "What are you going to do when you run out of people to pay for everything?!"

We are at a crucial point, both in our state and nationally. We must gain control of irresponsible state and national spending that has reached extremely dangerous levels. We need to stop financially cannibalizing our own nation.

We need to overcome the entitlement mentality. And we need to stop voting for political candidates who promise to keep giving us things. The way out of the stagnant recession is to vote for responsible political leaders who have the bigger picture and who have the future welfare and health of our state and nation at heart.
