McMahan merges with Mountcastle

McMahan and Kathy Young will continue to serve their clients out of the Mountcastle office at 307 W. Center St. in Lexington.

McMahan Insurance and Employee Benefits specializes in providing creative solutions and proactive service to their group, individual and Medicare health insurance clients. They also work one on one with clients learning their needs and counseling them on how best to secure their future with life insurance, annuities and long-term care insurance options.

McMahan started his agency in 1978. He holds the Chartered Life Underwriter designation and is a member of the North Carolina Association of Health Underwriters. He is an active member at First Baptist Church and member of the North Carolina Masonry Contractors Association. After graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and prior to his career in the insurance business, McMahan was a teacher and coach.

Mountcastle Insurance is a full-service, independent insurance agency serving clients since 1890. Mountcastle Insurance has offices in Lexington, Winston-Salem and Charlotte.

Universal Forest Products, a leading manufacturer of wood and wood-alternative products, plans to create 49 jobs and invest $2.6 million during the next three years in Salisbury.

The project, announced last week, was made possible in part by an $85,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund.

"Large manufacturers with a presence in North Carolina know we have a tremendous workforce and a strong business climate, and these businesses continue to look to North Carolina when they need to expand," said Gov. Bev Perdue in a press release. "Helping to grow existing North Carolina employers is a key part of our job creation strategy."

Universal Forest Products is the nation's leading manufacturer and distributor of wood and wood-alternative products to the retail, construction, manufactured housing and industrial markets. UFPI and its subsidiaries employ more than 300 people in Alamance, Pasquotank, Randolph and Rowan counties. This project will open a second facility in Salisbury to concentrate on customized industrial packaging for large customers.

Salaries will vary by job function, but the average annual wage for the new jobs will be $37,143 plus benefits. The Rowan County average annual wage is $36,036.
