And he showed no remorse as he was locked up for 18 weeks and banned from owning animals for life after admitting cruelty charges against two Staffordshire Bull Terriers.
The footage, secretly filmed by a stunned neighbour, showed the female dog being beaten so badly that one of her legs was effectively hanging off.
Khan’s cruel regime was caught on video by the neighbour between May and December 2009.
But a year after being taken into care and nursed back to health by RSPCA vets, the three-legged dog, renamed Judy, has made a remarkable recovery and has found a new home in Newport, South Wales.
New owner Jeanette Rogers, aged 63, was not aware of the circumstances surrounding her injuries.
Holding back the tears she said: “We didn’t know how she lost her leg, we thought it was in an car accident. She is a gorgeous girl I can’t understand why someone would treat her so badly.”
Ms Rogers said: “We went to the animal shelter in January. I had recently lost my cat of 19 years to kidney failure and I wanted to take on another animal. I went with my daughter, we looked at a lot of dogs – they were all barking at us and we didn’t want a barker then we saw Judy’s cage, we called her name and she came towards us and that was it. It didn’t matter that she had three legs.
“She was extremely thin when we got her but now we are taking her to the vets to make sure her weight doesn’t increase because we have to be careful with her only having three legs.”
Ms Rogers, a housing warden and daughter Clare, aged 38, admit to spoiling their new family member, making sure she gets a daily intake of vitamins and supplements.
“Just last week we spent £60 on a new bed for her – because the one we had was not big enough.
“I am a warden of a sheltered housing complex and live on site and all the residents love her to bits, she gets so much attention and is always getting treats.
