If you are not in line now, it is too late to see the Emancipation Proclamation while it is at the Henry Ford Museum. There is a 7-hour wait to see the document, museum officials said, and while the museum will stay open until 6 a.m., the line is closed.

Thousands have already endured long waits and seen the historic document.

Seventy-three-year-old Amy Jackson stood in line outside the Henry Ford in Dearborn for three hours Monday evening just to spend a few moments looking at the Emancipation Proclamation.

She didn't mind the wait.

"I can handle this," the Detroiter said. "It's not as long as slavery."

Jackson said she felt an obligation to see the document that marked the beginning of the end of slavery in America. "My mother would expect me to be here," she said.

Jackson said her mother, the late Edith Mathis Davis, came to Detroit in 1915 from Macon, Ga. She couldn't teach in Detroit at that time because she was black. "We've come a long way," said Jackson, a retired DPS teacher.

She was among the crowd of more than 3,500 excited and emotional people who flocked to the Henry Ford to see the Proclamation, which was issued by President Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War. The document will be on display nonstop and free until 7 a.m. Wednesday.

"This is a terrific gift to the community," said Christian Overland, executive vice president of the museum. "We hope every school child and every family visits and hopefully will be inspired by the courage of those brave men and women who fought to make America free."

The opening of the Emancipation Proclamation exhibit at the Henry Ford in Dearborn lived up to the hype Monday evening. Thousands of people -- young and old, of all races -- converged on the museum as the festivities stretched into the night.

"It's precious," said U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Damon Keith, who was among the first to view the Proclamation.

"I look at that document and think, 'What would President Lincoln say today about the fact that the president of the United States is a man of color and that, in large part, emanates from the Emancipation Proclamation.'

"I'm honored to be here not only for what it represents for black Americans," said Keith, "but for what it represents for all those who believe in freedom and justice for all.

What Must I Do to Be Emancipated

It wouldn't be rape. In Indiana, sex with a minor under the age of consent is child molestation and the child must be under 14 for that to be applicable. Since the child is 4 months old and the OP is 15, it is unlikely she was under 14 at the time of the sex. Now, if there was any sex while she was under 14 it would be child molestation but we don't have that info. However, the fact remains that no matter what state they are in, a 15 year old with a child has a better chance of winning the lottery and being struck by lightning on the same day than they do of being emancipated. IN will not emancipate a 15 year old at all; only two states will even consider it, and I don't see that the poster qualifies to be emancipated in either of them, either.
