Summer Car Care – Maintenance Important During Busy Driving Season

It’s summer time, and the weather is hot. Most people are not familiar with how the warmer weather can impact your car’s performance and reliability. Scheduling a service appointment can help keep you and your vehicle happy during the summer months.

A complete check over of your car will include several maintenance issues. New England Motor Works offers a 21 point inspection with each Lube-Oil-Filter for every car. In addition, a summer maintenance check for your car or truck will include some other basics including:

Brake Pad and Rotor check along with routine fluid checks*.

Tires: Tires should be checked for wear which is vital in warmer months. Having a worn tire can lead to hydroplaning, cracks or divots in sidewalls and setting tires to correct psi which will help with fuel economy.

Air Filter: The air filter should be cleaned or replaced to help contribute to efficient fuel mileage. Often road debris, dirt and dust will create blockage that can lead to a gradual drop in horsepower.

Spark Plugs and Fuel Filters: These items are checked to be sure they are providing the best output. A clogged fuel filter will limit the flow of gasoline and impact your average mileage. These are quick checks to increase fuel economy, idle and acceleration of your vehicle.

Air conditioning System*: When the temperature starts to climb, you need a radiator that works well and isn’t leaking. All hoses in the engine compartment should be inspected to be sure they are able to perform. The coolant* in the car should be tested to validate that it is in good working order and able to handle the summer heat.

After finding that I got different readings measuring the pressure in the same tire, I contacted Milton and spoke with a fellow there who said that in the US, even the best gauge only has to be within 4 pounds of the actual pressure.
