So, at the gun shop today started looking at 1911's. I currently own Springfield XD9 (service). I looked at the Springfield 1911 GI model .45 for about $500. I realize as 1911's go, this is very inexpensive and obviously not the top of the line. But, again, I was surprised at how difficult to rack the slide, how it did not rack smoothly. Also the slide release not very nice. I love my XD and it racks very smooth and easy and releases the slide in much the same way. so, at the gun shop today started looking at 1911's. So I borrowed my friend's Springfield Loaded model for a weekend, and quickly found out that the platform is not for me. I am not knocking the gun at all, but like any gun out there, they are not for everyone. Make sure you are positive about wanting a 1911 before you make this investment, because 1911's tend to turn into money pits.
