More recently, it's become the focal point of a contentious civil lawsuit against the mortgage company who sold it to Steffany Jackson without telling her about its sordid past. Steffany Jackson filed a civil lawsuit against the mortgage company that leased her the home on grounds of false eviction, breach of contract and fraud for failing to tell her that the home was the same one that NBC and Murphy police used in an undercover sting operation to film and trap alleged sexual predators for "Dateline's" popular "To Catch a Predator" segment, according to documents obtained from Collin County's 417th District Court. Back in 2006, the home at High Point Drive served as the basis for the NBC's TV news magazine's popular segment in which potential suspects are lured to the home through chat rooms and private message conversations with members of Perverted-Justice, a California- and Oregon-based website that conducted sting operations using volunteers posing as underage teenagers. In the segment, suspects are lured into the home by an underage teen --- who is an actor hired by "Dateline" to pose as the minor the suspect thought they were talking to --- but are instead greeted by host Chris Hansen, who interviews them about their salacious online conversations and informs them they are being videotaped for a news segment, followed by a weapons-drawn arrest by awaiting police officers. The incident gained national notoriety that put the controversial segment on the hot seat for taking over a police investigation in the interest of entertainment and sensationalism. The sting became the subject of scrutiny in several high-profile news outlets such as ABC's "20/20" and Esquire Magazine and was even satirically skewered in an episode of the Comedy Central animated sitcom, "South Park." Jackson also claims the companies have tried to intimidate her into moving out of the house, even though she still has "ownership interest" in the home. The false-eviction charge stems from the mortgage company's two attempts to evict Jackson from the home in February and April of 2010.
