LifeSmart is one of the most popular infrared heaters brand that are committed to designing cost effective, efficient and long lasting heaters. The LifeSmart Large Infrared Quartz fireplace is a powerful unit that are most suitable for large room. Today our review will include the unique features that differentiates itself from other fireplaces.
This free standing fireplace comes in a beautiful built-in mantel surround which may be a great addition to your home décor. The mantel surround looks well-built and uses high quality Oak wood.
Although it was stated for a large room, it is actually 28 x 11 x 20. The LifeSmart unit also comes with E-Z glide caster wheels to enhance its mobility, so even if it’s a relatively heavy unit. There shouldn’t be a problem moving from one room to another. Though you may need an extra pair of hands if stairs are involved.
The only slight annoyance that we didn’t like was the LCD back-lit screen and buttons visible right at the top of the fireplace display. It can be slightly distractive from people to enjoy the flames, also it gives away itself as an electric unit with those buttons and LCD thermostat level.
The heater is actually what LifeSmart is most well-known for, as they are very experienced in producing heaters. The heater in this electric fireplace uses the infrared technology to deliver heat. At the top lip of the mantel surround, you will find 3 commercial grade quartz infrared elements. These elements are capable to deliver a more comfortable and soothing heat as compared to the conventional convection heater.
The blowers are also available in 3 level settings. They help to circulate the heat for to avoid cold spots and deliver heat further, up to 1000 square feet.
The blowers are quite strong in this unit, if you have a well-insulated home, this unit can easily heat up a 1500 square feet pretty well. suitable for homeowners with big rooms or open-plan designed home.
With the combination of heating elements and blowers, the LifeSmart electric fireplace can toast up a room quickly. You can feel the difference in temperature just by operating it on high for around 10 minutes.
Overall, we are quite pleased with the heater performance. Especially with the eco-mode available where it automatically adjust the output to maintain the room temperature at 68 F, saving you electricity.
Ease of control
You can adjust the settings of the fireplace in 2 ways, either on the unit itself or remote control. You have 3 heat-level settings to adjust the strength of the blower. As for the thermostat, you can select the temperature at 2 degrees interval from 62F – 82F.
Lastly, the auto shut-off feature also allow users to set the timer from 30 minutes up to 12 hours.
All these settings are neatly displayed on a back-lit LCD screen at the right top of the fireplace.
The buttons on the remote control are not quite intuitive, so hold on to the user manual for a few days until everyone are used to it.
There’s no LCD screen on the remote control. If you plan to use it in a bedroom, keep in mind that it can be somewhat difficult change the setting with lights off at night.
The good new is, you can see the current settings through the back-lit LCD on the unit. The screen is large enough to be fairly visible within 10 feet distance.
As for the visual experience, we think this unit might have some improvement to be made.
The logs of the fireplace looks quite realistic. But, the flames lacks a touch of realism if you look closely, you will find that the flame is projected at the back of the panel, distanced away from the fire log. This only applies if you look at it closely and carefully examine the display.
Out of the corner of the eyes, it does looks pretty and serves the job at adding a cozy ambiance to your home.
What made up for the visual is the overall look of the surround, they look beautiful and add a sense of class to the home décor.
The only thing we thought could be improve was to remove the LCD on the unit and instead put it on the remote control.
Any electric appliance without the appropriate safeties is not only bad, but downright dangerous to own. LifeSmart understand this well and truly deliver a good set of safety feature for the fireplace.
First off, as this is a free standing fireplace, it means that there it will be dangerous if it were to be knocked over. The weight distribution of this unit are well planned to avoid the unit to be easily knock over by accident. This is an important and great feature especially if you have pets or younger kids at home.
On top of that, the unit can withstand a topple threshold for up to 45 degrees. What’s more? It is equipped with an auto shut-off feature to automatically shut down when it was toppled in either way. So you can be assured that the unit will not cause any unwanted accidents.
Adding on to that, you can also set the timer from 30 minutes up to 12 hours which it will then automatically shut-off. This helps prevent accidents and saves you some energy bill just in case you forgot to turn the unit off.
If your unit happen to be over-operating, the overheat safety switch will be triggered to automatically shut off even if the timer is not up yet.
From a safety perspective, it has most of the essential features to minimize risk of accidents.
In conclusion, we think that this unit provides a good value for its price. This can make a great addition to your home if you live in a cozy apartment as it provides soft but strong heat. The mobility that comes with the E-Z caster wheels attached at the bottom of the unit makes it easy to move from one room to another for zone heating purpose. But, if you are looking superior realism, then there might be better options out there.
